Landforms Science & Media links the worlds of science and the media.

Our wide experience in both scientific research and communication with the press has acquainted us with both ways of thinking, the scientist's and the journalist's or multimedia reporter's. Whereas a scientist is inclined to loose himself in the details of his or her own work, a reporter queries its news value, and its significance to the general public. That can create misunderstandings. Scientists often complain that journalists misrepresent their stories and are only looking for sensation.

We can help scientists present their information more effectively to the press. We can help journalists find news items and contact the right scientists.

Landforms Science & Media runs the Press Office of the European Geosciences Union, EGU.

The European Geosciences Union is Europe's largest learned society for Earth and planetary scientists. Every year, the EGU organises a General Assembly. The venue used to be Nice, but as from 2005 the General Assembly has been held in Vienna. More than 8,000 scientists attend each year, not only from Europe but from all over the world. During the General Assemblies we organise ten to fifteen press conferences on topics ranging from climate change, tsunamis and volcanism to the European space missions to Mars and Saturn.

We administer Services for the Media, the website on which EGU publishes press releases and other news items.
